California Cities Working Towards Going Green by EmploymentCrossing
California’s Palm Springs and Sacramento are two of the state’s cities that are working towards green technologies.
Palm Spring’s mayor recently created a Mayor’s Task Force to create a clean technology economic-development strategy to create more green jobs in the city. The Clean Tech Task Force includes companies that have already been leaders in the green movement and is focused on strengthening and retaining green jobs.
California’s capital, Sacramento, is already home to nearly 1,800 clean-tech jobs and is leading the push to bring more to Northern California, which has already profited from the clean-tech industry. In 2007, more than $50 million was invested into clean-tech companies, which has helped launch nearly 100 start-up companies in Sacramento.
Over the next 10 years it is estimated that clean technology has the potential to create 10,000 new jobs and bring in $5 billion a year to the Sacramento region.
The minimum training qualifications for a hospital safety coordinator include a bachelor's degree in safety or a health-related field and a few years of experience, but that might make the position sound easier than it is. Marge McFarlane's advice to recent graduates who want her job? ''Good luck!''
McFarlane is the safety coordinator and a member of the Green Team at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Environmental health and safety auditor jobs are being created in increasing numbers as companies realize the exposure they face from laws created by a wide range of regulatory bodies including local, county, state, and federal governments. Government bodies at all levels have long sought to protect the health and safety of the public at large, and larger businesses have generally followed suit, in part because of liability issues but also as a cost of doing business with government.
It's Time for a ''Green-Collar'' Job Revolution, Says EmploymentCrossing
Pasadena, CA — A ''green-collar'' job revolution is taking the nation by storm as so-called green-collar jobs are increasingly being viewed as the single best solution to the tumultuous recession. EmploymentCrossing, one of world's leading job boards, has also found through its own analyses that the future economy will depend heavily on companies which are fast introducing environmentally friendly products and services. Statistics have clearly demonstrated the fact that as employment rates in the fossil fuel sector are deteriorating at a brisk pace, the best hope for reviving the sluggish job market lies in an increase in green-collar jobs. Fortunately, EmploymentCrossing is already up and running with the task of posting new green jobs every day.
